NEW YORK – First baseman Yandy Diaz was placed on the restricted listing Saturday by the Tampa Bay Rays, who recalled infielder Curtis Mead from Triple-A Durham.
Díaz had missed Friday’s 6-1 loss to the New York Yankees, the Rays’ first recreation after the All-Star break. Rays supervisor Kevin Money mentioned the transfer was made due to household private causes that didn’t qualify below the main league bereavement/household medical emergency listing. Money mentioned the transfer was not disciplinary.
“We’re taking it everyday,” Money mentioned. “Simply hoping that we see him quickly.”
Díaz, 32, is hitting .273 with eight homers and 46 RBIs. He was a first-time All-Star final 12 months, when he batted an American League-leading .330 with 22 homers and 78 RBIs.
Mead, 23, began the season with the Rays and hit .218 with one homer and 5 RBIs in 26 video games. The rookie was optioned to Triple-A on Could 6 and batted .278 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs in 59 video games.
“I do know he is gone down there and accomplished some good issues,” Money mentioned. “Plenty of gamers come up, understand there could also be some changes to be made and I give Curtis loads of credit score that he was fairly dedicated to doing that.”
